In Praise of Social Media For Good Purposes
I might not be what you want but I am what you have.
If a priest evangelizes online, is he seeking Likes and popularity? Most likely not. A good priest has good intentions. Social media is merely a platform to share information with others. Just like newspapers once did more widely. Priests, bishops and nuns share the Catholic faith as part of their chosen vocations. But we ordinary Christians are online too, so we also can use social media for good, even if we don’t seem worthy to do so.
Priests have special graces and blessings that we ordinary Catholics don’t. We know that. Priests and nuns have devoted their lives to their holy vocations. We are thankful for them. And we pray a lot for their protection and ours.
We ordinary followers of Jesus share in the devotion too and so we try to serve in the best ways we can. We share Jesus with people who might not know Him yet. We are not sustained by the church as priests and nuns are, although, I know many of them also experience lack. So most of us still need to work to provide for ourselves and some for their families. We still have bills to pay and mouths to feed (even if mine is a little cat). I don’t want to have to depend on charity if I can still try to earn an income through my work.
